• Brought data from third-party debt-collection agencies into the bank’s data warehouse and a new dimensional model for litigation reporting.
• Designed the detection of forbearance events and the NDoD (New Definition of Default) metrics behind risk reporting to the ECB.

Moved from adviser to architect on the L&M team, owning the design of a new sales data model.

• Designed an integrated fact table that reconciles two policy systems down to the lowest grain, giving one trusted view of sales events.
• Built the policy movement engine with the data engineers. It now feeds provision and sales reporting.
• Delivered a business key manager in Python on Databricks that deduplicates and manages business keys across sources.
• Introduced unit testing to the team’s data engineering work.

• Mentored the team through the data warehouse design and published modelling guidelines on the team’s intranet.

Nordic Data Office LeadMar 2021 – Mar 2022

Built ALD Nordic IT’s first dedicated data team, owning data management for Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

• Kept customer reporting running through the move from Fleet to Miles, stabilising the Danish reports and rebuilding Sweden’s reporting layer.
• Set up CI/CD pipelines with automated testing for SSRS and database deployments.
• Integrated back-office and financial data for the first time, supplying ALD International’s Project Lilly on the road to a banking licence.

Data Vault Consultant

Data Vault 2.0 adviser to AP Pension’s data warehouse architect on the move to a new enterprise data warehouse.

• Delivered proofs of concept and design patterns for point-in-time tables and loading from source to raw vault.
• Produced patterns for handling GDPR and personal data, and for business keys missing in the source systems.

BI Solutions Architect

Architect for data movement and data architecture on the Codan BI 2019 programme.

• Delivered the data side of the integration with Forsikring & Pension’s claim history exchange, so insurers can see a prospect’s claim history.
• Prototyped a policy life-cycle model for measuring sales and underwriting activity.

Data Warehouse Architect & Technical Lead

Led the move to a modern, business-focused enterprise data warehouse with the data team and an offshore ETL team in India.

• Designed and documented the end-to-end reference architecture and implemented a Data Vault 2.0 model.
• Delivered RDA risk aggregation data and compliance reporting for tax and the national bank.
• Built a GDPR data-cleaning engine.
• Moved the team to Agile, with source control, unit tests and deployment automation.

Lead Developer, CatMan Initium phase II

Second round on Initium, a cloud ETL-as-a-service platform on Azure for retail and consumer-goods BI.

• Migrated six customer databases onto Initium.
• Integrated promotion data into the data warehouse model.
• Added unit tests, deployment automation and training for the team.

Data Warehouse Architect

• Designed a BIML-based automation framework for ETL.
• Designed and implemented data integration logic and improvements to Aller Media’s data model.

Data Engineer

Imported data from Actulus, a cloud calculation engine for market value and cash flow, for Solvency II reporting.

• Delivered the integration, including complex XML handling and custom .NET SSIS components, in half the planned time with one other consultant.
• Proposed and built an SSAS cube that saved the actuary team 3–4 days of manual work every month.

Data Warehouse Architect & .NET Developer

Lead developer building Initium, CatMan’s ETL and data warehouse as a service on Azure.

• Built the platform on Azure SQL Database, Web Apps, WebJobs, Queues and Storage with Entity Framework and C#.
• Created a more agile data warehouse layer that simplified loading data for every customer.

Senior BI Developer

Senior member of the BI team, extending the bank’s enterprise data warehouse.

• Partner Portal: designed the data mart, OLAP cube and security model that gave Saxo Bank’s partners direct BI reporting.
• Financial reporting: built a corrections module so Finance could fix figures while staying reconciled with the warehouse.
• MDS Replicator: built a Windows service in C# that replicates data between Master Data Services models.
• Omniture: brought web analytics data into its own data mart, with SSIS packages generated by BIML.
• Drove early use of BIML, continuous integration and test-driven development.

Lead Data Architect & Product Owner

Lead data architect and product owner for the semantic layer of the Maersk data warehouse.

• Customer Transparency: rebuilt how Maersk Line measures customer experience, so performance can be tracked per customer rather than for 10 key clients only.
• Demurrage & Detention: moved revenue reporting from a monthly cube to the lowest level of detail in the warehouse, and became the subject matter expert in Maersk Line IT.
• Salesforce.com: linked sales activity to actual bookings in GCSS, so salespeople could track targets and spot mismatches.
• Ran the Kimball modelling process with the business on every project, documented in the DWH bus matrix.

Lead Data Warehouse Architect

• Led the design of DWH 2.0, the new dimensional data warehouse, including proofs of concept on SQL Server 2012 Master Data Services and Data Quality Services.
• Architected ETLFW, the SSIS framework for all file integration, and trained the team to build on it.
• Ran a three-day dimensional modelling workshop where the team built a working model from real data.

Lead Database Developer & Architect

• Rebuilt CatMan Solution from five customer-specific databases into one standard platform, later used by more than 20 Danish and 8 Spanish customers.
• Built ETLDB, a configuration-driven ETL engine that processes hundreds of files a day without customer-specific code.
• Delivered BI solutions for Ruko (an upgrade to SQL Server 2008 with self-service cubes) and Cadbury Europe (sales-force reporting in five countries).
